Experiences & Achievements in 30+ years of Coaching

An Athletic Life

Dan Roberts’ competitive sporting life began at university, where he captained both the (Division 1) Tennis 1st Team and the Lacrosse Team. He also founded their roller-hockey club and was awarded university colours for his contribution to sport.

In his twenties and thirties, he continued to pursue an active athletic path, representing England in lacrosse, competing in Muay Thai, and undertaking endurance challenges including ultra-marathons and mountain expeditions around the world.

In his forties, his focus expanded into strength and movement disciplines including powerlifting, gymnastics, and martial arts weapons training, alongside a deeper commitment to long-term physical health and performance longevity.

Today, Dan continues to explore and refine his approach to training and wellbeing, guided by a simple belief: an athletic life is the foundation for a long, capable, and fully engaged life.

Early Coaching Years

Dan Roberts began coaching at the age of 16 as an assistant tennis coach at his local club in Manchester. This early experience marked the start of his lifelong engagement with performance, movement, and athletic development.

While enrolled in a Business degree at Kent University, he supported himself through coaching tennis and lacrosse at Kings School in Canterbury and at Christchurch College. During this time, he also spent summers coaching sports at Kutshers Sports Academy in upstate New York, gaining early international experience.

By 21, he had accumulated over 1,000 hours of coaching experience.

Travelling, Independence & Early Philosophy

After graduating in the 1990s, Dan suffered the consequences of reading too much Hemingway and Kerouac and spent several years travelling the world—a bohemian chapter that profoundly shaped both his worldview and his later approach to coaching and human performance.

During this time, he lived and worked in more than 50 countries, funding his travels through an eclectic range of jobs, from cleaning toilets and working on farms to manual construction, cleaning dishes, door-to-door sales, B2B sales, hostel management, and hosting pub crawls for backpackers.

Alongside his travels, Dan immersed himself in literature and philosophy, developing a lasting interest in Eastern thought. This eventually led him to live, work, and study at a Tibetan Buddhist monastery and to visit His Holiness the Dalai Lama at his home in the Himalayas.

These experiences fostered a lifelong belief that the greatest education comes from balancing study, experience, and curiosity. They also instilled an appreciation for simplicity, discipline, resilience, and mental clarity – principles that continue to shape the Dan Roberts Method today.

Finding His Calling

Dan Roberts’ professional exercise coaching journey began in 2001 when he qualified as a Personal Trainer with the Australian Institute of Fitness while living on the Gold Coast. This period marked the convergence of his interests in movement, learning, and teaching into a clear professional direction.

In the early 2000s, he returned to Sydney and began developing his coaching practice, working with competitive triathletes and building early communities around running and performance training in Bondi.

His work then expanded internationally, including time in New York, where he gained experience as a Strength & Conditioning Coach in school and collegiate Basketball and US Football settings.

After relocating to London, he worked in a sports and exercise capacity before moving away from commercial gym settings to focus on private, individual coaching. This shift marked the beginning of a more independent and refined approach to training, forming the foundation of what would later become The Dan Roberts Method.

Training Professional Athletes

While based in London between 2003 and 2007, Dan Roberts specialised in the 1-2-1 physical conditioning of professional athletes across a range of disciplines. His work focused on enhancing performance, resilience, and movement efficiency in high-demand sporting environments.

He supported athletes across sports, including American football, skiing, basketball, boxing, MMA, tennis, surfing, athletics, and dance, applying strength and conditioning principles in both individual and team contexts.

During this period, he also worked with sporting organisations internationally, including the development and implementation of a national-level strength and conditioning programme for Indian tennis in Mumbai, supporting coaches and ATP-ranked players.

His work in elite sport established a reputation for an adaptable and applied approach to performance coaching, which has since expanded into the entertainment industry. He continues to work selectively with athletes and high-performance professionals, including sprinters, combat athletes, stunt performers, and individuals operating in physically demanding security roles.

A Life of Study

Around 25 years ago, Dan set a long-term intention to become one of the leading performance coaches in his field. Since then, his work has been underpinned by continuous study, practical application, and collaboration with specialists across sport, health, and human performance.

His understanding of training, nutrition, movement, wellness and performance psychology has developed through decades of applied coaching, international experience, and ongoing professional development across multiple disciplines.

He holds a range of recognised coaching qualifications, including the Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (USA), alongside additional training in strength and conditioning, Olympic lifting, athletics, nutrition, stress resilience, and performance coaching.

He continues to refine his practice through ongoing study and applied research in strength and power development. For example, in 2026, he has been furthering his exercise science know-how by studying at the Weck Method Institute™ and at Westside Barbell™.

Educating Coaches

In 2006, Dan was invited to join a London-based coaching education provider as Head Lecturer and Assessor, where he contributed to the development and delivery of nationally accredited qualifications in fitness instruction and personal training.

During this period, he also developed and taught specialist coaching frameworks in kettlebell training and Muay Thai Fitness, helping to expand applied performance education within the industry. Alongside practitioner education, he worked with other coaches and educators to develop teaching standards and professional practice within the fitness sector.

He later created the Methodology X™ instructor certification and continues to deliver workshops and masterclasses for coaches, focusing on training methodology, communication, and the business of coaching.

Coaching Fashion Models in Brazil

In 2007 and 2008, Dan Roberts lived in Rio de Janeiro, where his work expanded into the fashion industry through the conditioning of professional models. During this period, he began working with leading fashion models in Brazil, helping them develop specific physiques that balanced aesthetic refinement with strength, posture, and overall physical capability. His approach evolved significantly through this work, as he adapted performance-based training principles for non-athlete clients in a highly aesthetic context.

This experience led to the integration of multiple strands of his methodology into a more unified system that combines athletic performance, body-composition training, movement quality, and long-term physical confidence.

Since then, he has worked with hundreds of fashion models. He has also personally helped many clients get in shape for Vogue covers, trained fashion industry icons for major global brand campaigns, and helped countless clients get ready to open and close New York, Paris, Milan, and London fashion weeks.

Methodology X™

Methodology X™ (MX) was created by Dan Roberts in 2012–2013 as a concise training guide focused on developing lean, balanced, and performance-ready physiques. It has since evolved through multiple iterations into a comprehensive training ecosystem with multiple themed workouts and a distinct holistic philosophy.

Today, MX operates as an online membership platform and live group training system, delivered internationally across multiple countries. It is designed primarily for fashion models and individuals seeking structured aesthetic conditioning alongside strength and movement training.

Alongside the training system, MX includes an educator certification for coaches and trainers, as well as a podcast exploring topics related to training methodology, performance, and physique development.

Cited as ‘the workout bible for models’ by Women’s Health Magazine, it has become one of the leading workout systems for the international fashion modelling community.

A Year in Asia: Life as a Full-Time Fighter

While continuing to coach clients in London, Dan began studying for a Master’s degree in Philosophy and developed a deep fascination with Muay Thai. That interest soon evolved into a life-changing pursuit.

In 2009, he relocated to Thailand, where he spent almost a year immersed in the life of a full-time fighter. Training under former champions, his days revolved around striking, sparring, roadwork, conditioning, and the disciplined routines of a traditional Muay Thai camp. During this period, Dan competed successfully in multiple fights across southern Thailand.

The experience profoundly shaped his approach to coaching, reinforcing the values of discipline, resilience, humility, and purposeful movement that continue to underpin the Dan Roberts Method today.

Following his final fight, Dan was invited to Abu Dhabi to serve as the private Muay Thai and kickboxing instructor for a senior member of the Emirate’s Royal Family.

Luxury Fitness Concierge

Following his time in the Middle East, Dan Roberts developed his work into an international fitness and wellbeing concierge service, supporting high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients across multiple regions.

Since 2011, he has worked privately with individuals and families on a global basis, providing tailored coaching, performance support, and long-term physical development guidance. His work extends beyond personal training to include coordinating integrated wellness environments, collaborating with selected specialists as required.

This includes advising on private training environments, supporting the structure of family-wide wellbeing approaches, and overseeing trusted networks of coaches and health professionals who can maintain continuity in his absence.

Over the past decade, Dan has worked with multiple high-profile family offices, including four different Royal households, across discreet long-term engagements.

In addition to private concierge work, he has designed and led a number of small-group and individual training retreats across Miami and Europe, which have been featured in publications including How to Spend It and The Times travel section.

Launching NUK SOO™

Following his return to London in 2011, Dan Roberts began integrating martial arts principles more formally into his coaching practice, drawing on his long-standing study of movement, combat systems, and performance training.

Over time, his experience across striking, traditional martial arts, and internal movement disciplines informed a broader approach to physical development—one that combined conditioning, coordination, discipline, and mental focus.

This synthesis of athletic training and martial philosophy led to the creation of NUK SOO™, a 90-day body and mind transformation system inspired by combat training principles and structured performance development.

NUK SOO™ was launched in 2019 as an online training programme and membership platform.

Role Preparation & Performance Coaching

In 2011, Dan Roberts was invited to physically prepare the lead cast of his first major studio production, Snow White & the Huntsman, marking the beginning of a long-standing career working behind the scenes in film and television.

Since then, he has specialised in role preparation for actors, combining body transformation, movement coaching, screen combat, athletic conditioning, and performance psychology to help performers meet the physical demands of their roles.

His work is valued for its discretion, adaptability, and ability to translate elite athletic training into authentic, character-driven movement. Working closely with actors, directors, producers, and stunt teams, Dan helps performers not only look the part, but move with the confidence, physicality, and presence their characters demand.

Today, he continues to work selectively across major film, television, and theatre productions, collaborating with leading talent and production teams on projects around the world.

By 2012, Dan Roberts was leading a team of eight full-time trainers operating within his London-based coaching environment in the West End. Over time, his focus shifted away from traditional gym operations toward a more scalable, systems-led approach to performance coaching. This evolution led to the development of his two core training systems, Methodology X™ and NUK SOO™  – both of which have since supported clients from over 60 countries.

In parallel, the Dan Roberts brand expanded into mentoring, consulting, and advisory work within the broader wellness and performance industry, as well as long-term collaborations with film production companies and luxury hospitality partners.

These partnerships have included the development of integrated wellbeing programmes within leading hotel environments, where services have encompassed training systems, guest movement experiences, and performance-led lifestyle support embedded within hospitality settings.

Mentoring, Media & Consulting

Since 2007, Dan Roberts has mentored strength coaches, personal trainers, Pilates teachers, yoga instructors, and wellness entrepreneurs, helping them develop not only their coaching expertise but also their communication, leadership, branding, and business skills.

His mentoring work has included serving as a business mentor for Virgin Start-Up, where he supported early-stage founders in building sustainable businesses within the health and wellness sector. In 2021, he was recognised as Business Mentor of the Year for his contribution to the programme.

Alongside his coaching practice, Dan has become a trusted consultant to media organisations, production companies, and wellness brands. His work has included advising Channel 4, Netflix, and numerous British and Hollywood film productions on physical training, movement, and performance.

Dan has also contributed extensively as a writer and broadcaster. He has written regular columns for Men’s Fitness, Women’s Running, and Men’s Running, appeared on expert panels, hosted two podcast series, and serves as a judge for the annual TPP National Wellbeing Awards.

He is currently writing his first book and is represented by Dorie Simmonds Agency Ltd.
