Developing a wide range of physical skills is probably the most rewarding element of training for me. My background is in sport, not bodybuilding, so I am naturally biased towards movement and performance rather than purely aesthetic training.
The thing is, there doesn’t need to be a choice. Yes, like me, you can train mainly for health or performance, or you can do what I do with the vast majority of my clients, which is to train athletically AND shape the body at the same time. In Lessons 12 and 13, I’ll share tips, insights and workouts to help you sculpt your body while sticking to a more holistic athletic philosophy.
Developing skills usually means developing coordination alongside one or more of the other physical pillars. These skills can come from athletics, climbing, gymnastics, dance, combat, mountain and ocean sports, or pretty much any sporting activity. One of my biggest hopes with this course is that you take up a new sport or physical skill. You’ll gain a multitude of social, psychological and physiological benefits from doing so.
My personal favourite skill-based activity is martial arts. As many of you reading this are also NUK SOO™ members, you’ll already know why. For those unfamiliar with NUK SOO™, it is my martial arts-based training system built around striking, fight-conditioning, bodyweight training and mindset work, drawing from a wide range of combat disciplines. A lot of it evolved from the kind of physical preparation I have used with actors getting ready for action roles, and it is designed for people who want to become fitter, sharper, tougher and more capable.
